Steps To Take In Finding A Keynote Speaker : Writing and Speaking

You are here: Home / General / Steps To Take In Finding A Keynote Speaker

Whenever you go to a seminar or some other type of public event, you?ll typically notice that the keynote speaker will make a difference to the success of the event. They are the glue that holds the entire event together. These are generally men and women who are charismatic and well informed on the subject that they are presenting and this enables them to keep the audience engaged.

In the event the public speaker can?t hold the audience?s interest then the whole presentation will have no meaning whatsoever. It is for that reason important for you to be careful when finding a keynote speaker for the coming event, otherwise the entire function could possibly be a failure.

The very first thing you need to do is sit down with your organizing committee and figure out exactly what the unique selling point of your presentation is. Look at all the factors that you will want the presenter to achieve and then examine exactly what you can spare financially once you seek to hire your chosen speaker.

Armed with these criteria, it is possible to then attempt finding a keynote speaker for your occasion. It might in addition be a great idea to find out from other businesses about available speakers they might advise. They may be able to refer you to one who served them very well. You could in addition search for a person on the web, where you?ll have the ability to go through evaluations from those who have employed each speaker before you end up making your final choice.

It is best to be mindful of the motive of the public speaker. Some professional speakers will attempt to advertise themselves even while they are giving their keynote speech. This tends to just confuse the audience and ruin the whole event. You may additionally find that some of them, though charismatic, may not have enough understanding of the focus of the event. Arrange interviews with them to make sure that you can have a personal idea of just how effective the speaker is going to be. You?ll have the ability to discover if they are knowledgeable of the subject at hand. When you?ve made the decision on the speaker then you should provide him with all of the information that he needs to get ready for the keynote speech.

You should additionally inform the speaker about the make up of the projected audience. A keynote speech for a group of teens is going to be completely different from a speech to company executives. Informing the speaker about this will enable him to prepare properly for your audience and that should boost his effectiveness and help make the whole event substantially more successful. Finding a keynote speaker requires time and effort to locate the ideal one, but it will be really worth it in the end.

You can really get ahead with a little bit of looking into general psychology on the internet to see how you can get started.

During the course of study when introduced to the subject of psychology, students have the unique opportunity to study, theorize, and give their hypothesis on any given point within the study of human and social nature. Many aspects of psychology are debatable and present challenges for students to participate in these discussions.

The first part of an introductory class will deal with learning what psychologists, scientists, and sociologists already know about humans. They will also learn what is new and exciting in the field of psychology and what they expect to happen in the future, as far as technology advancements and new scientific discoveries are concerned.

An Introduction to Psychology provides students with the chance to learn the very basic facts of the biology of humans. This includes our nervous system and five senses and how they work together to give us our views of the world and how we relate to our surroundings. Students will also learn about a human brain?s consciousness and awareness. Scientists and psychologists have much to learn about the brain, the most complex human organ.

During their psychology course at college for free, students will learn the history of the subject as part of their degree. They will discover how the very first psychologists conducted their studies on the physiology of our nervous system and sensory organs. They will learn, as the first psychologists did, how a human?s brain works in conjunction with its nervous system and with vital organs.

Injured Robben ruled out until further notice

Associated Press Sports

MUNICH (AP) -Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben will be out for an undetermined period of time to allow treatment on his groin problem.

Team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt told the club's website Wednesday that Robben needs "intensive treatment" on the bone inflammation which kept the Dutch winger out of Bayern's Champions League second leg playoff in Zurich on Tuesday.

Dr. Mueller-Wohlfahrt said "the period of his recovery cannot be set at this time." The 27-year-old Robben will be evaluated on a daily basis to see how he progresses.

Robben has been beset by back and groin problems since Bayern's season begun.

Robben had been due to play in the Netherlands' 2012 European Championship qualifier against San Marino on Sept. 2.

"We have to clear that up with the Dutch federation," Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes said.

Report shows more US farmers relying on? | Advanced E-Commerce,E ...

FRESNO, Calif. ? Think of farms and images of tractors and combines come to mind. But what about laptops, smart phones and tablets?

The number of farmers with Internet access on a variety of digital gadgets has dramatically increased, changing the way farms do business. Farmers say they?re increasingly using the Net to speed up their work flow, improve their farming techniques, market their crops, connect with customers and retailers, and fulfill a variety of regulatory requirements.

Within the past decade, the number of farms with an Internet connection has increased by nearly 20 percentage points, according to a report issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture earlier this month. More than half of America?s farms now have access to the Internet, with farmers in the West with the highest access.

?The Internet is such an integral part of doing business in agriculture,? said Dan Errotabere, who farms 3,500 acres in Riverdale, 25 miles south of Fresno. ?If the power goes off, everything on the farm seems to stop. Everything is so electronic now.?

Farmers still lag behind the general population ? nearly 80 percent of Americans surf the Web at home ? but the fact that Internet-enabled devices have become less expensive and more portable has fueled the increase.

Big farms like Errotabere?s have the most access, the USDA report shows. More than 70 percent of farms with sales of $250,000 or more use the Internet for farm business.

For Errotabere, the Internet is key in communicating with and delivering documents to government officials, manufacturers, packers and retailers. His staff files reports online, catches up with pest control advisers via email and receives text messages about the weather.

Errotabere emails brokers and trades agricultural commodity futures on the Web, and he downloads delivery information on an hourly basis for his crops.

?The Internet is quicker, portable and more reliable than mail,? said Errotabere, who uses a laptop and smart phone and just got an iPad. ?You get a pulse for whatever is happening in real-time. It has revolutionized the ag business.?

Alec Smith, whose family?s Turlock Fruit Company grows melons and other crops on several thousand acres near Firebaugh, 45 miles northwest of Fresno, says one of the most important advances of the Internet is in pest control. When plants exhibit signs of disease, staff at Turlock Fruit snap photos and emails them to plant disease specialists at universities. The specialists then email back with advice for combatting a disease.

Turlock Fruit Company workers also use websites that act as buying networks between growers and shippers, carriers, retail grocers and wholesalers. Using such websites, grocery stores can place orders directly with Smith?s company.

?You can make quicker decisions with the info you get on the Internet,? said Smith, who occasionally tweets and blogs to share updates of life on the farm.

About 41 percent of smaller farms also are online, according to the USDA.

Rob Rundle of Rundle Family Farms, who grows vegetables on 13 acres on the outskirts of Fresno, uses the Internet on a desktop and smart phone to beef up his farming practices ? learning about pests, seed varieties, crop production, fertilizer use and soil types.

Before the Internet, Rundle said, he had to speak with crop advisers in person or pay for books or pamphlets. The Internet makes that quicker and cheaper.

At the 40-acre Smith Family Farm in Fresno, a community-supported agriculture program that sells directly to customers, owner Mike Smith posts photos of his farm on Facebook, updates the farm website weekly with available crops and runs a blog. Customers email their orders.

Smith said he turned to the Web when he switched from doing wholesale to running a CSA and selling directly to customers at farmers? markets.

?The Internet means survival to a lot of the small farmers,? he said. ?When you have a CSA and don?t have a web site, nobody?s going to know about you.?

Despite the enormous benefits to using the new technology, barriers remain for many farmers, said Richard Molinar, a small farm adviser at the University of California Cooperative Extension in Fresno.

Older farmers and immigrant farmers tend not to use the Internet or digital devices. And while the cost of computers, phones and Internet connections has fallen, for small farmers the expense can be prohibitive.

Some farmers still struggle with dial-up connections and inadequate cell service. Web pages take too long to load, and phone calls get dropped.

Rural America lags behind urban areas when it comes to fast-speed Internet, according to a report released in February by the U.S. Department of Commerce. In rural areas, 60 percent of households use broadband Internet, 10 percentage points less than urban households.

Internet access also varies by region. Farmers in the West have the highest Internet access, over 70 percent, according to the USDA, followed by farmers in the Northeast. Farmers in the South have the lowest access.

But the main barrier to farmers? Internet use? Well, farming.

?Sometimes you work late, you work hard, so do you really want to go on the computer when you get home? No, not really,? Mike Smith said.

And no matter the benefits, farmers said, the Internet is never going to replace the physical labor of planting and harvesting.

?Farming,? said Alec Smith of Turlock Fruit Company, ?is still about farming.?

(AP) ? There were cracks in the Washington Monument and broken capstones at the National Cathedral. In the District of Columbia suburbs, some people stayed in shelters because of structural concerns at their apartment buildings.

A day after the East Coast's strongest earthquake in 67 years, inspectors assessed the damage and found that most problems were minor. But the shaking raised questions about whether this part of the country, with its older architecture and inexperience with seismic activity, is prepared for a truly powerful quake.

The 5.8 magnitude quake felt from Georgia north to Canada prompted swift inspections of many structures Wednesday, including bridges and nuclear plants. An accurate damage estimate could take weeks, if not longer. And many people will not be covered by insurance.

In a small Virginia city near the epicenter, the entire downtown business district was closed. School was canceled for two weeks to give engineers time to check out cracks in several buildings.

At the 555-foot Washington Monument, inspectors found several cracks in the pyramidion ? the section at the top of the obelisk where it begins narrowing to a point.

A 4-foot crack was discovered Tuesday during a visual inspection by helicopter. It cannot be seen from the ground. Late Wednesday, the National Park Service announced that structural engineers had found several additional cracks inside the top of the monument.

Carol Johnson, a park service spokeswoman, could not say how many cracks were found but said three or four of them were "significant." Two structural engineering firms that specialize in assessing earthquake damage were being brought in to conduct a more thorough inspection on Thursday.

The monument, by far the tallest structure in the nation's capital, was to remain closed indefinitely, and Johnson said the additional cracks mean repairs are likely to take longer. It has never been damaged by a natural disaster, including earthquakes in Virginia in 1897 and New York in 1944.

Tourists arrived at the monument Wednesday morning only to find out they couldn't get near it. A temporary fence was erected in a wide circle about 120 feet from the flags that surround its base. Walkways were blocked by metal barriers manned by security guards.

"Is it really closed?" a man asked the clerk at the site's bookstore.

"It's really closed," said the clerk, Erin Nolan. Advance tickets were available for purchase, but she cautioned against buying them because it's not clear when the monument will open.

"This is pretty much all I'm going to be doing today," Nolan said.

Tuesday's quake was centered about 40 miles northwest of Richmond, 90 miles south of Washington and 3.7 miles underground. In the nearby town of Mineral, Va., Michael Leman knew his Main Street Plumbing & Electrical Supply business would need ? at best ? serious and expensive repairs.

At worst, it could be condemned. The fa?ade had become detached from the rest of the building, and daylight was visible through a 4- to 6-inch gap that opened between the front wall and ceiling.

"We're definitely going to open back up," Leman said. "I've got people's jobs to look out for."

Leman said he is insured, but some property owners might not be so lucky.

The Insurance Information Institute said earthquakes are not covered under standard U.S. homeowners or business insurance policies, although supplemental coverage is usually available.

The institute says coverage for other damage that may result from earthquakes, such as fire and water damage from burst gas or water pipes, is provided by standard homeowners and business insurance policies in most states. Cars and other vehicles with comprehensive insurance would also be protected.

The U.S. Geological Survey classified the quake as Alert Level Orange, the second-most serious category on its four-level scale. Earthquakes in that range lead to estimated losses between $100 million and $1 billion.

In Culpeper, Va., about 35 miles from the epicenter, walls had buckled at the old sanctuary at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, which was constructed in 1821 and drew worshippers including Confederate Gens. Robert E. Lee and J.E.B. Stuart. Heavy stone ornaments atop a pillar at the gate were shaken to the ground. A chimney from the old Culpeper Baptist Church built in 1894 also tumbled down.

At the Washington National Cathedral, spokesman Richard Weinberg said the building's overall structure remains sound and damage was limited to "decorative elements."

Massive stones atop three of the four spires on the building's central tower broke off, crashing onto the roof. At least one of the spires is teetering badly, and cracks have appeared in some flying buttresses.

Repairs were expected to cost millions of dollars ? an expense not covered by insurance.

"Every single portion of the exterior is carved by hand, so everything broken off is a piece of art," Weinberg said. "It's not just the labor, but the artistry of replicating what was once there."

The building will remain closed as a precaution. Services to dedicate the memorial honoring Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. were moved.

Other major cities along the East Coast that felt the shaking tried to gauge the risk from another quake.

A few hours after briefly evacuating New York City Hall, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the city's newer buildings could withstand a more serious earthquake. But, he added, questions remain about the older buildings that are common in a metropolis founded hundreds of years ago.

"We think that the design standards of today are sufficient against any eventuality," he said. But "there are questions always about some very old buildings. ... Fortunately those tend to be low buildings, so there's not great danger."

An earthquake similar to the one in Virginia could do billions of dollars of damage if it were centered in New York, said Barbara Nadel, an architect who specializes in securing buildings against natural disasters and terrorism.

The city's 49-page seismic code requires builders to prepare for significant shifting of the earth. High-rises must be built with certain kinds of bracing, and they must be able to safely sway at least somewhat to accommodate for wind and even shaking from the ground, Nadel said.

Buildings constructed in Boston in recent decades had to follow stringent codes comparable to anything in California, said Vernon Woodworth, an architect and faculty member at the Boston Architectural College. New construction on older structures also must meet tough standards to withstand severe tremors, he said.

It's a different story with the city's older buildings. The 18th- and 19th-century structures in Boston's Back Bay, for instance, were often built on fill, which can liquefy in a strong quake, Woodworth said. Still, there just aren't many strong quakes in New England.

The last time the Boston area saw a quake as powerful as the one that hit Virginia on Tuesday was in 1755, off Cape Ann, to the north. A repeat of that quake would likely cause deaths, Woodworth said. Still, the quakes are so infrequent that it's difficult to weigh the risks versus the costs of enacting tougher building standards regionally, he said.

People in several of the affected states won't have much time to reflect before confronting another potential emergency. Hurricane Irene is approaching the East Coast and could skirt the Mid-Atlantic region by the weekend and make landfall in New England after that.

In North Carolina, officials were inspecting an aging bridge that is a vital evacuation route for people escaping the coastal barrier islands as the storm approaches.

Speaking at an earthquake briefing Wednesday, Washington Mayor Vincent Gray inadvertently mixed up his disasters.

"Everyone knows, obviously, that we had a hurricane," he said before realizing his mistake.

"Hurricane," he repeated sheepishly as reporters and staffers burst into laughter. "I'm getting ahead of myself!"

Because life has its pressures. They bear down on a relationship, and it can be very difficult at times.

You need each others? support and to be able to discuss and reason so that you can reach a sensible and equitable solution.

So how do you keep the spark going? How do you keep a marriage fresh? It helps if you are ?best friends?. Couples in good marriages are best friends. You don?t betray a best friend. You don?t deceive a best friend. You trust a best friend. The best friend bond is a supportive bond. It?s the real glue in a successful marriage.

There are however some other matters that sometimes cause an irritation in a marriage, even in a successful marriage. It?s okay being best friends, but it?s important that you don?t let the attraction you have for each other die. It is important to pay attention to this.

Lets? say that you become overweight and you neglect to pay yourself proper attention.

Isn?t that being a little selfish? Don?t you think you partner wants you to look good? You bet they do.

If you want to add back a bit of sparkle in your marriage, lose some weight. Take exercise and start to regain some of that lost youth. Why not examine what you eat? Eat a better diet and shed some weight. Why not think of eating less meat and more fruit and vegetables? Turn over a new leaf and go vegetarian and put real zest back into your relationship.

If you really want to make a difference to your life, lose weight and feel great , you can!

Order dinner on an iPad at this high-end Manhattan restaurant (Yahoo! News)

De Santos is the first New York restaurant to streamline its service system with iPads

If you want to experience an?iPad-driven restaurant service in?New York City, De Santos in West Village is the place to go. The Italian resto that used to be the frequent haunt of Janis Joplin and Bob Dylan recently completed its transition from using traditional serving methods to relying completely on the?iPad. The owners made this move for two reasons ? to streamline the restaurant's ordering system and to add to the visual aspect of the establishment.

The restaurant's iPad is loaded with a custom-built point of sale (POS) system that appears as an app on the tablet. It has the full menu you can look at so you know exactly what you're buying. Orders are then sent wirelessly to the kitchen for preparation. Paying with a credit card? No problemo. The iPads have swipers, and the POS has a?Square-like credit card payment system.

While it seems ludicrous to replace cheap pen and paper for taking orders with iPads, the owners claim they're actually saving money by making the transition. Orders are placed and prepared faster, and they get to monitor employees remotely ? tough luck for the friendly waiter or waitress who's inclined to slip someone a free drink every now and then, though. While it's a first for any New York restaurant, iPads have been used as menus in other places including?Southern California and?China.

A gay man and a lesbian decide to have a child through IVF ...

From the UK Telegraph.

Excerpt:

Seven years ago, when Sabrina Morgan, 33, was single and desperate for a child, she found herself chatting to Kam Wong, 41, a gay man who was longing to be a father, in an online fertility forum. ?I instantly thought he was genuine, down-to-earth, laidback and flexible,? says Sabrina.

?We exchanged pictures. It wasn?t about sexual attraction, obviously, but it was important what he looked like. I asked him if he had any history of baldness and loose teeth. It was part humour but it was also my way to steer towards more serious questions, like does he have any genetic health conditions.?

For Kam, who is in a long-term relationship, contacting Sabrina was about more than being a sperm donor: ?I adore children. The desire to have my own has always been with me. Because of my sexuality I thought it might never happen. The urge grew stronger in my thirties until one day I researched options. When I met Sabrina I was very nervous. This was my chance to fulfil my dreams.?

It took Sabrina six years to conceive through IVF. By then she had met Kirsty Slack, 37, who is now her romantic partner. Sabrina and Kirsty live together and are Zaide?s primary carers. Kam visits weekly, which will increase as Zaide gets older.

Kam and Sabrina are one of the growing number of couples in so-called ?co-parenting? relationships ? biological parents who have a close but platonic relationship and both contribute to child-rearing . Co-parenting isn?t just for the gay community. Straight men and women are choosing to put romance aside in the name of reproduction.

[...]Catherine, 41, met Steve, 39, on the website [xyz]. He is gay and she has been single for two years. He lives in London for his job as an analyst but will join Catherine in Swansea if and when he gets her pregnant, through artificial insemination (AI).

It isn?t that Catherine doesn?t want to find love but that she wants a child more: ?I?ve stopped looking for a partner. Of course I need love, but I can have a partner at any age. I can only have a child now,? she says.

[...]Catherine started her online search after a break-up from a three-year relationship with a man who didn?t want children. ?I?d just turned 39 and thought, ?I don?t have time for this to happen again.? In a worst-case scenario I would seek an anonymous donor, but I?ve always thought a child needs a father. At the very least I wanted a donor who would visit regularly.?

Catherine chatted to Steve for a month online before meeting: ?When I saw him my heart jumped. I thought, ?Finally it?s going to happen!? I was happy for him to stay in London, but he wanted to be fully involved. Now I?m helping him find a job in Swansea.?

If Catherine conceives they plan to live together for a trial period: ?We know we could end up like a bickering couple. If so we will live separately. I have friends with small children ? I could see how hard it would be for me to live alone. Who would go out to get nappies and milk if I ran out??

Mary actually found this post for me on the Boundless web site, where she found these two comments.

A very bad man: (Bryan)

We can condemn surrogacy by a single man or woman all we want. But at the end of the day, NO ONE can deny the fact that the biological urge to reproduce is strong and sometimes defy reason.

I do understand that young man?s desire to have a biological baby because to be honest, I feel that way myself. Boundless readers may want to condemn people like us but let it be known that there are people who, confronted with such a strong biological urge, have no choice but conduct surrogacy with a woman in India. I must admit, although I am a man and not a woman, I still long to hold the tiny fingers of a helpless baby in my hands, gaze at the cute eyes of mini-me and caress the soft baby skin in my arms. It is just natural. Boundless readers, if you want to condemn single young men with desires like me, go ahead. But let it be known that people like me exist but are just keeping quiet (until now, of course).

Men aren?t supposed to talk like that ? they are supposed to protect children from the selfishness of predators. Not ruin the child?s life because of their own selfishness. It?s completely backwards.

A very good woman: (Kim)

My heart just breaks for men in our society (American). How horrible to always be faced with low expectations, being made fun of, thought of as the unneccessary ?moron?? How wrong!

For what it is worth, a man who is willing to fight against culture and strives to be a man of honor and respect- with everything that entails- certainly commands my respect.

What a sad, sad society we have become. I feel for that child and the emotional and mental anguish he will feel. Read any literature on abuse and at the very least this arrangement will leave this child open for abuse via a low self esteem. Can you imagine being passed back and forth when it is convenient for your parents? Getting older and finding out you were a child of convenience and want, want in a selfish form and not a giving form?

I think it?s important for Christians to connect issues like this to their Christian worldview. Instead of tolerating and excusing every sin to make people like us, we should take a step back and ask ourselves if the Bible might not be correct when it prohibits certain conduct as sinful.? Obviously selfish atheists are going to want to blur the lines of morality, redefining it so that chastity, fidelity and sobriety are out, but yoga, recycling and vegetarianism are in. But there is no reason that we have to go along with them. We should be on the side of the children. The new generation of secularists have turned their backs on chastity, courting and traditional self-sacrificial marriage. Now they are struggle to desperately grasp for their happiness, no matter how much harm they cause to innocent children. Let?s tell them that some things are wrong.

Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith: 'We Are Still Together' (omg!)

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Will and Jada Smith have issued a statement confirming they are still together after a report surfaced on Tuesday suggesting their 13-year marriage had come to an end.

"Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false. We are still together, and our marriage is intact," Will and Jada said in a joint statement, issued to Access Hollywood.

On Tuesday morning, InTouch Weekly claimed the Hollywood superstar couple has decided to split after 13 years of marriage.

Will, 42, and Jada, 39, tied the knot in 1997. They have two children together - Jaden, 13, and Willow, 10. Will also has a son, Trey, 18, from a previous marriage.

Will's previous marriage to Sheree Zampino lasted from 1992 to 1995.

Will and Jada reportedly met when Jada auditioned for a role on Will's long-running series "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air."

Back in 2008, Will opened up about his marriage during a visit to "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," and at the time, said "divorce is not an option."

"What I found is divorce just can't be an option," Will told Ellen at the time. "It's really that simple. And I think that's the problem with L.A. - there are so many options. So a huge part of the success for [Jada] and I is that we just removed the other options."

In 2005, Access spoke with Will while he was promoting "Hitch" to talk about the secret to making a marriage work.

"Jada and I spend a lot of time studying relationships and why things work and why things don't work," Will told Access Hollywood at the time.

"You've gotta love every aspect, you've gotta love it from every angle," Will later added.

Meanwhile, Jada said one of the secrets to the couple's success was finding time - and a place - for each other.

"You have to be willing to move around -- to move your romance around. Kitchen, closet, park, parked car," she laughed during the "Collateral" junket in 2004. "You'd be surprised!"

On Monday, Will was photographed in Miami and it appeared he was not wearing a wedding ring. However, it should be noted, Will often does not wear his ring. See the photo, here!
