Why didn't Obama send military help in Libya?

Now there is a very interesting question that could actually come up during tonight's Presidential debate. CBS News has a devastating report about what was known about the attack while it was happening.

CBS News has been told that, hours after the attack began, an unmanned Predator drone was sent over the U.S. mission in Benghazi, and that the drone and other reconnaissance aircraft apparently observed the final hours of the protracted battle.
The State Department, White House and Pentagon declined to say what military options were available. A White House official told CBS News that, at the start of the attack, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Martin Dempsey and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta "looked at available options, and the ones we exercised had our military forces arrive in less than 24 hours, well ahead of timelines laid out in established policies."

But it was too late to help the Americans in Benghazi. The ambassador and three others were dead.

A White House official tries to throw Gen Dempsey and Sec. Panetta under the bus but it is crowded and Bill Clinton is in the way trying to pull Hillary out. They could have had F-18s on station in hours and this has been an effective way to drive terror-clowns off in both Iraq and Afghaistan. They aloso could have had door-kickers there in hours as well, they just didn't. This is gonna get ugly, well uglier. They did nothing and watched on a drone feed hoping that the situation would change, but campaign slogans don't save lives. That takes making an actual gutsy call and as it turns out the Osama-slayer didn't have time to poll this one, so he loaded up AF one and flew to Vegas.

This is a CBS News report and the moderator for tonight is Bob Schieffer from CBS News. I really have to believe that this question gets asked. But of course it is possible they decide this would be too damaging for the chosen one. Good gut check for the media. My money says they launch on Barry, and that this is the beginning of the end.
