Quote Roundup: New England Residents Predict the 2012 Election (ContributorNetwork)
The 2012 election season looms near and primaries begin soon. The Republican Party offers many presidential hopefuls for the electorate to choose from. New England residents across a broad spectrum of ages, political affiliations and professions weigh in on who they think will square off against President Barack Obama next year.
In asking New England residents who they think the Republican nominee will be and how the election will turn out -- one year out, the similarities and differences of opinion paint an interesting picture.
* "I think Mitt Romney will run for the Republicans. I'm not sure who he'll pick for a running mate. The Republicans are too conservative and don't have many good candidates. It's tough to say who will win." -- David Cabot, investment company director, Cambridge, Mass.
* "Mitt Romney is out in front right now but none of the candidates are interesting. I don't care who wins. I just want the election to be over and have someone win who will get people working together and fix the economy." -- Cindy Westover, real estate agent, Walpole, N.H.
* "From what I've read Romney is the front-runner. I'm really not crazy about any of the candidates. You have to give a little to get a little and none of them are doing it." -- Myra Mansouri, broker associate, Walpole, N.H.
* "As of today I think Romney will be the Republican candidate, unfortunately, because none of the others are making any sense. I have no clue who his running mate would be. I hope Obama wins again because really conservative Republicans are scary." -- Ann Connor, business coach, Keene, N.H.
* "My guess is Romney will be the GOP candidate, but if he wants to win he needs to bring in the governor of Texas as a running mate. I think the Republicans will win because they want immediate change." -- Alan Soney, parent, Jaffrey, N.H.
* "Much as I don't necessarily like him, I think it will be Mitt Romney. I think he'll pick some Washington insider. At this point I would have to say a lot of people are fed up with Obama so Romney would probably win." -- Mark Braught, business owner, Keene, N.H.
* "It'll probably be a Romney-Perry ticket, though I think Cain is a front-runner. Obama will win, though, because he is pulling all kinds of foolishness like bailing out the students to get their votes. If the GOP doesn't have a really strong ticket people will stick with what's already there." -- Barb Corey, medical office employee, Brattleboro, Vt.
* "I think Mitt Romney will get to run as a Republican against Obama, but I have no idea who he'd pick as a running mate. Obama will beat him, though." -- Nancy Goodell, retiree, Keene, N.H.
* "Romney will run for president with Rick Perry as the VP candidate. I'd prefer to see Cain get the nomination, but I don't think it will happen. The Republicans will win because they have better candidates." -- Ken Matthews, state employee, Hillsboro, N.H.
* "With what I know Romney is the front-runner and will run against Obama. I don't think he stands a chance against Obama, though. You have to really mess things up to lose as the incumbent and Obama just hasn't done that much wrong." -- Bob Jack, home inspector, Guildford, Vt.
* "It'll probably be Mitt Romney with Mike Huckabee as a running mate. Herman Cain just doesn't have the campaign experience he needs. I think Obama will win because the proposals from the GOP to solve economic problems just don't work." -- David Hayden, training manager, Chelmsford, Mass.
* "I think Romney will run against Obama in 2012, though I have no idea who he'll choose as a running mate. The other candidates just have views that are too extreme for the American public to get behind. Obama will win and it won't even be close. When people get educated about what Republicans want they won't be snowed under any more." -- Dan Flynn, marketing representative, Winchester, N.H.
