Slightly off the beaten path lies a hidden gem in Freeport ? Windswept Estates.
"Windswept Estates is in the process of revitalizing its community," said Daniel de Kok, president of the POA at Windswept Estates.
Besides further upgrading the community pool, playground and clubhouse, there are future expansion plans to include a community gym, a boat and trailer storage facility, an enhanced facelift of the front entrance at Highway 20 and a complete transformation of the rear entrance."
Located off of State Road 20, Windswept Estates is a 450-lot gated community that features 750-acres of protected property and a roughly 200-acre-plus championship golf course, all surrounded by natural habitat and peaceful serenity.
Partnering with developers Danny Smith and Christine Clark, the team at White Sands Realty in Destin has 74 lots available in this picturesque community.
Entering the gates of Windswept, one will travel almost a quarter-of-a-mile before approaching the community?s Golf Pro Shop.
"This is the only golf course community in Freeport," said David Connart, director of sales at White Sands Resort Realty, Inc. "The past several months have been spent designing house plans."
Windswept Dunes Golf Club was designed by Doug O'Rourke, who has built courses in the Midwest for names such as Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Rick Smith. The championship course can play as long as 7,752 yards from the championship tees, but has five other sets which make it playable to all skill levels.
With each new home purchase at Windswept Estates, a golf package is included. Whether a seasoned pro or a curious observer, the golf package can be used for 10 rounds of golf or lessons with a PGA golf professional.
Windswept Estates offers homeowners the peace and quiet of a rural community, while still being well within reach of the amenities and beaches buyer?s desire. The meticulously planned community is five miles east of U.S. Hwy. 331, 17 miles from the beaches of South Walton and a 25-30 minute drive to Pier Park in Panama City Beach.
Lots range in size from three-quarters of an acre to one-and-a-half acres in size. The custom built homes at Windswept, which start in the mid-$200,000s, feature three, four and five bedroom designs that accommodate anywhere from 2,000-3,000-plus square feet of living space.
With a tremendous amount of flexibility available, buyers can also customize the finishes in their homes, Connart said. Homes will boast open floor plans and great standard features such as granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, upgraded crown molding, minimum of 9-foot to 10-foot ceilings, vinyl windows, standard 2X6 framing and low maintenance brick exteriors.
Windswept offers buyers a unique home site package specific to meet their needs, White Sands Realtor Jonathan Spears told The Log.
"People who want an estate-style home can have that here," he said.
With an abundance of amenities within the community, owners at Windswept will also see significant savings in their pocketbooks, since infrastructure improvements were paid for by the community?s developers, and not passed on to homeowners. The development also sits outside of the Freeport city limits, which keeps more money in homeowner's pockets since they do not have to pay a city tax.
As the revitalization continues at Windswept Estates, the community?s board of directors and homeowner's association have been working "hand-in-hand" to make this golf course community the place to live in Freeport.

Buyers can also tour the neighborhood and visit the on-site office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday as well as 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday.
With new construction under way, the team at White Sands Resort Realty has caught the attention of buyers.
"As construction has begun, we already have one buyer, who had purchased prior to the slab being poured," Connart said. "This shows pent-up demand for a quality, custom-built development like Windswept."
