Senate President Williams Honored by Justice Resource Institute ...

THOMPSON, CT - Senate President Pro Tempore
Donald Williams (D-29) was honored today for his long-standing commitment to the health and welfare of Connecticut children with disabilities by the Justice Resource Institute (JRI) at its Susan Wayne Center of Excellence in Thompson Connecticut.?

?Senator Williams has been an advocate on behalf of children with disabilities in Connecticut and has worked tirelessly to ensure they receive the best care to
foster their development and education, so that they can become active, independent adults in our community,? said Andy Pond, President of JRI. ?His dedication is steadfast and we are pleased to present him with this
award.?

Senator Williams was presented with the award this morning and participated in a tour of the Center. He also participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the center?s new multi-tiered Therapeutic Adventure Course. The Course, the first of its kind in Connecticut, is designed to help children develop techniques and self-confidence to overcome any obstacle presented to them on the course and in life.

?I am happy to accept this award on behalf of the many children who have been served by the Susan Wayne Center of Excellence in Thompson,? said Senate President Pro Tempore Donald Williams. ?I look forward to continuing to work with the Center to provide the services our youth need to help them live more productive and happier lives.?

Founded in November of 2008, the Susan Wayne Center of Excellence (SWCE) offers intensive residential, medical, educational and clinical services for up to twenty-seven boys and girls who have developmental disabilities including autism, with concurrent behavioral, mental health and medical concerns. SWCE was founded as a joint project of the Connecticut Departments of Children and Families, Developmental Services and JRI which operates the facility.?

Justice Resource Institute?s mission is to provide hope and opportunity to children and adults whose physical, emotional or learning related disability requires innovative and specialized support and treatment.
